Transfers Between Accounts
Not sure how SortMe handles the million and one transfers you make between account? Our logic handles all of that for you, find out how and when below.
Seeing a transfer show up as income or an expense? That usually means only one of the two accounts involved is connected to SortMe — jump to the fix below.
Managing transfers between accounts
Are both accounts connected in SortMe?
When money is moved between two accounts that are both connected in SortMe our logic considers this a 'Transfer'. By do this we ensure these transactions are excluded from your reporting totals, so it won't inflate your incomings or outgoings.
It's really quite clever and does this automatically. If this is not the case for you, something funky is going on - get in touch with the team so we can fix this for you ASAP.
Example below of SortMe logic automatically categorsing a 'Transfer':

A transfer is showing as income or an expense?
This usually means only one of the two accounts is connected in SortMe. When only one side of a transfer is connected, the only data we have is money either leaving or entering that connected account — so it can look like an expense or income instead of a transfer. We're clever, but we're not mind readers.
Either:
1) Connect that account to your SortMe account.
2) Manually categorise the transaction as a 'Transfer'.
Credit Card Payments
MOST of the time SortMe will recognise payments to your credit card as a transfer. Why? Because when you make a payment to your credit card you are technically reimbursing the credit you 'borrowed' to make those previous purchases.
Sometimes these transactions will pop up in the 'Uncategorised' group in your Spend Overview feature. If this happens you can simiply recategorise as a 'Transfer' and create a rule to reconcile past and future transfers to your credit card.
