How to Tag, Ignore, and Manage Transactions
Beyond categorising, SortMe's Spend Overview gives you additional tools to manage your transactions. You can add custom tags, ignore transactions that don't represent real spending, and manage income categorisation. Here's how to use these features.
Adding Tags to Transactions
Tags let you add custom labels to transactions for your own tracking purposes (e.g., "Side Hustle", "Holiday", "Tax Deductible").
- Click on a transaction in the right-hand panel to expand its details.
- Click the "Add Tag" link below the category selector.
- Type a tag name in the text field (tag names can only contain letters, numbers, and spaces).
- Click the "Add" button to apply the tag.
Tags will appear as small labels on the transaction. You can remove a tag by clicking the "×" next to it.
Ignoring a Transaction
If a transaction doesn't represent real spending (e.g., internal bank transfers between your own accounts), you can ignore it so it doesn't affect your spending totals.
- Click on the transaction to expand its details.
- Click the "Ignore this transaction" link below the category selector.
- The transaction will be marked as "Ignored" and excluded from your spending totals.
If you change your mind, click "Restore this transaction" to bring it back into your spending calculations.
Categorising Income Transactions
When categorising transactions that represent money coming in (shown as positive amounts), the category dropdown will display income-specific categories including:
- Gift
- Government Benefits
- Interest
- Investment
- Refund / Reimbursement
- Rental income / board
- Salary
Correctly categorising your income helps SortMe provide a more complete picture of your financial health within the Spend Overview.
